Job summary

Rocky Mountain Steel Mills is seeking an Area Manager - Melt Shop to lead safe, efficient melt shop operations (EAF, LRF, VTD) and to ensure production targets and quality standards are met. You will supervise melt shop supervisors and bargaining unit employees, manage the collective bargaining agreement, and drive Lean initiatives for reliability and performance.

Qualifications

• Associates degree required; bachelor's preferred in metallurgical engineering or related fields.
• Minimum 5 years of supervisory experience in heavy manufacturing, steel preferred.
• Experience leading teams in a unionized environment is preferred.
• Proven ability to manage safety, quality, and production balance.

Responsibilities

• Direct and coordinate melt shop operations (EAF, LRF, VTD) to meet schedules and specs.
• Troubleshoot process/equipment issues and drive continuous improvement.
• Enforce safety policies, compliance, and a safe work environment.
• Lead union workforce administration, grievances, attendance, and performance.
• Manage melt shop costs for alloys, electrodes, refractories, and utilities.
• Coordinate with maintenance for reliability and downtime reduction.
• Support capital projects and operational improvements aligned to needs.
