Sales Trader - Environmental Commodities

About the Opportunity
A growing brokerage firm specializing in environmental and renewable commodity markets is seeking a driven Sales Trader to join its New York team. This position is heavily focused on business development and client acquisition, making it ideal for someone who thrives in a high-volume outbound sales environment. The successful candidate will spend the majority of their time generating new business through cold calling, prospecting, and relationship building while developing a portfolio of market participants across North America.
Key Responsibilities
Business Development & Origination
- Conduct proactive outbound prospecting to identify and engage new clients.
- Build relationships with corporate buyers, utilities, project developers, traders, and other market participants.
- Convert prospects into active counterparties through consistent follow-up and consultative selling.
Client Portfolio Management
- Develop and maintain a growing book of business.
- Establish long-term relationships with both buyers and sellers in environmental commodity markets.
- Serve as a trusted point of contact for clients and market participants.
Trade Execution Support
- Identify transaction opportunities and collaborate with trading teams to facilitate execution.
- Assist with pricing discussions, deal negotiations, and transaction coordination.
- Support activity across renewable energy certificates, carbon credits, renewable natural gas, and related environmental products.
Revenue Generation
- Drive growth through disciplined outreach, activity management, and relationship development.
- Maintain strong call volumes and pipeline management standards.
- Contribute to individual and team revenue objectives.
Market Intelligence
- Develop a strong understanding of environmental markets, compliance programs, and voluntary sustainability initiatives.
- Stay informed on industry developments and market trends to support client conversations.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Coordinate with operations, risk, compliance, and analytical teams to onboard clients and support successful trade settlement.
Qualifications
- Proven ability to generate business through outbound sales and prospecting activities.
- Approximately 2+ years of experience in brokerage, sales, trading, business development, or a related field.
- Experience within environmental commodities, renewable energy markets, carbon markets, or energy trading is beneficial but not required.
- Excellent communication, relationship-building, and negotiation skills.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, performance-oriented brokerage environment.
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Environmental Science, Business, or a related discipline preferred.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States.
- Ability to work from the New York office location.
Compensation & Benefits
- Base salary ranging from $90,000 - $130,000, depending on experience.
