Job summary

Horizon House is seeking a compassionate Medication Technician (Med Tech) to join our Assisted Living team in Seattle. You will assist residents with medications, document administration, and maintain accuracy under RN delegation.

Expect teamwork with nurses, CNAs, and the care team in a patient-centered environment. The ideal candidate holds WA NAC certification with six months experience, reads/writes English well, and has EMR experience plus CPR/First Aid certification.

Qualifications

• Active WA State NAC with minimum six months work experience
• High School Diploma or GED
• Successful completion of Nurse Delegation Core Training
• Successful completion of Nurse Delegation with a Focus on Diabetes Management
• Must be able to effectively read, write, and communicate in English
• Proficient with using computers and software
• EMR experience required
• Current CPR and First Aid (Certification due within 30 days from date of hire)
• Food Handler’s permit (Due within 14 days from date of hire)
• Completion of DSHS Dementia and Mental Health training as required by WA State regulations (90 days)
• Must have excellent organizational skills and the ability to multi-task
• Remarkable communication skills with prescribers, pharmacists, families, residents, and care team

Responsibilities

• Accurately manage and administer medications and treatments per orders
• Document medication administration, effectiveness, and any side effects
• Protect residents’ rights and confidentiality in all medication delivery
• Transcribe orders into the MAR in electronic health record
• Maintain secure storage and accountability for all medications
• Report changes in condition to nursing staff in a timely manner
• Communicate with licensed staff, physicians, families, and care team about resident status
• Order all new and renewal medications as needed
• Collect and dispose of scheduled/controlled substances at discharge or expiration
• Maintain a clean medication area and carts
• Follow safety, infection control, and emergency procedures including PPE
• Assist with information gathering and documentation for incidents
• Follow infection control policies and procedures
• Perform CNA duties as assigned
