Purpose:

The Medication Assistant is responsible for medication care and assistance according to residents' Individual Service Plans and Physician Orders, reporting to the Wellness Director or designee.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
  • Authorized by the applicable state governing authority to assist or administer medication.
  • Meet state assisted living medication assistant guidelines.
  • Preferably experienced in medication assistance with older adults.
  • Interested in working with older adults.
  • Organizational skills and a mature, friendly personality.
Responsibilities:
Essential Functions:
  • Administer or assist with medication, maintaining records under supervision.
  • Verify resident identity and record medication details.
  • Observe ingestion or application, assist or administer medication as per procedures.
  • Monitor residents' responses and report any reactions.
  • Document reasons for non-ingestion of medications.
  • Follow community medication policies.
  • Administer via various routes as per guidelines.
  • Manage medication supplies and inventory.
  • Complete annual medication training.
  • Provide personal care with compassion.
  • Assist with bathing, grooming, mobility, feeding, and other personal care tasks.
  • Monitor vital signs and report significant changes.
  • Change dressings, assist with catheter cares, and remind residents about medications.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation.
  • Perform housekeeping related to resident care.
  • Ensure compliance with legal, ethical, and certification standards.
  • Deliver outstanding service and facilitate social activities.
  • Participate in community advertising and social media as appropriate.
