Job summary

Mingus Mountain Youth Treatment Center in Arizona is seeking a Medication Technician to support residential behavioral health care for adolescents. You will pass medications on a schedule, manage storage, and monitor doses across dorms and valley homes, coordinating with nursing staff and pharmacies as needed.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED, 21+ years old, a health services degree or relevant experience, and a valid AZ driver’s license.

• Must be at least 21 years old
• Bachelor's degree in Human Services or 4 years relevant experience or 2 years experience + 2 year degree
• Emotionally and physically able to assist in escort/restraint; assist ill/injured student
• Must be able to assist in AWOL searches in mountainous terrain
• Confidentiality and professionalism
• Valid AZ Driver's License
• Ability to obtain fingerprint clearance card

Responsibilities

• Pass medications at scheduled med pass times
• Ensure proper storage of all medications including prescription, OTC and narcotic meds
• Monitor each student medications for all dorms and valley homes; contact pharmacies for new orders
• Check orders from the previous day and document appropriately
• Count controlled meds with a nurse and document in narcotic med book
• Prepare required paperwork when a student goes on home pass or is discharged
• Check stock meds including OTC meds, PRN meds, creams, liquids, etc.
• Assist in transporting students to school and to nursing for exams with NP
• Assist nurse with wound care and provide first aid
• Keep work area clean and maintain nursing building
• Adhere to Mingus HIPAA policies for PHI handling

Education

Medication Technician Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED.
• Must be at least 21 old
• Must have 4 year Human Services Bachelor Degree; or 4 years relevant experience; or 2 years relevant experience and a 2 year degree.
• Emotionally and physically able to assist in physical escort and/or restraint. Must be able to help carry an ill, injured, or incapacitated student
• Must be physically able to assist in AWOL searches in mountainous terrain
• Confidentiality and professionalism are essential
• Valid AZ Drivers’ License
• Ability to obtain a Fingerprint clearance card (or in current possession)

Medication Technician Responsibilities

• Pass medications at scheduled med pass times.
• Ensure proper storage of all medications including prescription, OTC and narcotic meds.
• Monitor each student medications for all dorms, and valley homes to check the need for new medication orders, and/or discontinued meds. If a new medication or a refill is needed, contact all pharmacies and fax over correct orders.
• Check on orders from the previous day to see if they are in, or on their way and document appropriately.
• When meds are delivered, check inventory to be sure all are accounted for. Count all controlled meds with a nurse, and document in narcotic med book. Label, and lock in lock box.
• Pack any medications for a student that is going on a home pass, off campus activity or being d/c’d, and prepare required paper work.
• Check all stock medications including, but not limited to over the counter meds, PRN meds, cream, lotions, liquids, band aids, urine screening tests, medical supplies, etc.
• Help transport students to the school and to nursing for exams with NP.
• Help nurse with wound care, provide first aid when necessary.
• Clean work area, and help maintain nursing building.
• Adheres to Mingus policy and practice concerning creation, editing, transmission, storage, and disposition of all Protected Health Information in compliance with HIPAA.
