Job summary

Peraton Health, State and Local Sector is seeking a technical writer to join our Medicare FFS documentation team. You will lead the creation, organization, and maintenance of program documentation for Medicare Part A, Part B, and DME contracts, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and contract compliance.

This role partners with engineering, development, and operations to capture system functionality, document interfaces, and keep artifacts aligned with current system behavior.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or 6+ years of related experience as an alternative.
• 2–5 years developing and maintaining technical documentation in IT/software/systems.
• Experience creating system-level docs: architecture diagrams, interfaces, data dictionaries, user guides.
• Ability to translate SME/engineer/system artifacts into clear documentation.
• Experience managing a documentation repository (Confluence, SharePoint, Git-based).
• Proficiency with Office Suite, Visio, Lucidchart, Confluence, Jira.
• Excellent attention to detail and organization across multiple documents.
• Strong written and verbal communication in a cross-functional environment.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain Public Trust clearance; US Citizen.

Responsibilities

• Develops, updates, and maintains technical documentation for the DME program: System Architecture Diagrams, Interface Catalogs, Data Dictionaries, User Guides, SOPs, and runbooks.
• Ensures documentation is revised and published within 10 business days of system updates, per contract requirements.
• Establishes and enforces documentation standards, templates, version controls, and style guidelines.
• Maintains a centralized document repository; tags, archives, and shares with authorized stakeholders.
• Collaborates with architects, developers, engineers, analysts, and operations staff to collect information and validate updates.
• Translates complex technical concepts into clear documentation for technical and non-technical audiences.
• Conducts audits to identify gaps or outdated content and coordinates updates with teams.
• Supports onboarding docs, training materials, release notes, and knowledge-base articles.
• Assists with compliance documentation and artifact preparation for reviews and audits.
• Participates in Agile ceremonies and release planning to anticipate documentation needs.
