Job description

Medical Technologist/Medical Laboratory Technician

Responsibilities
  1. Follow laboratory procedures for specimen collection, handling, processing, test analysis, reporting, and record maintenance.
  2. Adhere to quality control policies and document all related activities.
  3. Perform instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance.
  4. Identify issues impacting test performance or reporting and notify the Lab Supervisor or correct as appropriate.
  5. Manage laboratory stock including ordering, receiving, and distributing supplies.
  6. Understand and perform all duties on associated checklists.
  7. Follow safety policies per Patient First and OSHA standards.
  8. Provide excellent customer service and foster a professional team environment.
  9. Complete additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  1. Must be at least 18 years old.
  2. High school diploma or equivalent.
  3. Keyboarding skills required.
  4. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  5. Preferred: One year of clerical and/or clinical experience.
  6. Educational requirements include at least 60 semester hours from an accredited college in chemistry, biology, or medical laboratory techniques, or an Associate degree in related sciences, including completion of clinical rotations in microbiology, urinalysis, chemistry, and hematology; or a 50-week military Medical Laboratory Procedures course qualifying for the military occupational specialty of 'Medical Laboratory Specialist.'
  7. Certification as a Medical Technologist (M.T.) or Medical Laboratory Technician (M.L.T.) by ASCP or similar recognized agency is preferred; registry-eligible candidates are encouraged to apply.
