Job Summary:

This position performs laboratory testing in the clinical laboratory. The Medical Technologist conducts moderate and highly complex testing, responsible for analyzing laboratory specimens and reporting results according to protocols and procedures. Demonstrates respect, dignity, kindness, and empathy with patients, families, visitors, and staff regardless of cultural background.

Job Responsibilities:
  1. Understand and apply principles involved in assigned procedures to clinical situations and patient diagnosis management. Assess specimen integrity, medication interference, and other factors affecting test results.
  2. Operate, troubleshoot, and maintain laboratory equipment and supplies to ensure high-quality, accurate, and cost-effective results.
  3. Ensure testing accuracy per manufacturer guidelines and regulations. Coordinate with service personnel to maintain equipment functionality.
  4. Report results within established time limits, including STAT and critical values, as per laboratory policy.
  5. Accurately record patient data in Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) and Hospital Information Systems (HIS) for timely and effective result retrieval.
  6. Collect and process specimens following laboratory policies for timely and accurate testing.
  7. Perform and document quality control procedures, analyze results, and take corrective actions if needed, notifying supervisors of discrepancies.
  8. Participate in quality assurance activities, including proficiency testing, and ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
  9. Contribute to professional development through continuing education and training.
  10. Assist in cost-saving initiatives, including inventory management and resource optimization.
  11. Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:

Education, Credentials, Licenses:

  • Baccalaureate Degree in Biological Science plus completion of NAACLS-approved Medical Technology program and certification from a recognized certifying agency, or
  • Baccalaureate Degree in Biological Science with NAACLS-approved Medical Technology program and ASCP certification, or
  • CLIA ’88 (HEW/HHS) Certification, or
  • Registry Eligible (Baccalaureate in Biological Science, completed NAACLS MT/CLS program, certification within one year of eligibility or hire), with minimum five years of clinical experience in one laboratory area for section certification.
Additional Information:

Minimum of 6-12 months of clinical experience during an approved MLS training program. FLSA Status: Non-Exempt.
