Brief Description

The Lead Medical Technologist is responsible for performing all duties of a Medical Technologist, including diagnostic testing on patient samples to assist physicians in diagnosis and monitoring of diseases. They follow standardized procedures, prepare samples, analyze test results for accuracy, and serve as a resource for staff. The lead acts as a liaison between management and staff, addressing issues in daily lab operations and assisting in maintaining overall lab functions such as staffing, troubleshooting, paperwork, billing, and problem solving.

Job Specific Duties and Responsibilities
  • Oversee lab staff across locations to ensure workflow efficiency.
  • Coordinate staffing for clinic locations.
  • Manage billing responsibilities.
  • Improve organizational workflows.
  • Resolve issues, involving the lab manager as needed.
  • Perform and verify laboratory tests, ensuring adherence to policies.
  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment.
  • Manage inventory of supplies.
  • Answer technical questions and prepare reports.
  • Participate in professional development and maintain knowledge.
  • Ensure compliance with safety and confidentiality policies.
  • Assist in quality control and assurance.
  • Investigate abnormal test results and communicate findings clearly.
  • Train and supervise new personnel.
  • Participate in proficiency testing and maintain all phases of patient testing.

Education, Certification, Licensure, and Registration

  • Knowledge of medical terminology and basic computer skills.
