Job summary

South Texas Health System is seeking a Laboratory Technologist to receive and analyze specimens, report results promptly, and participate in quality control and safety programs. The role may involve evaluating new methods, teaching, and supporting supervisory activities, with duties performed under minimal supervision.

Qualifications include a BS in Medical Technology or related field (or an MLT with 10 years experience), and CLS/MLS/MT certification within six months of hire.

Qualifications

• Training should have included at least 12 months in a structured training program with clinical internship in a hospital setting.
• Must demonstrate commitment to the Compliance Program and Code of Conduct, including training and reporting suspected issues to the Compliance Officer.

Responsibilities

• Receiving and analyzing laboratory specimens and reporting results in a timely manner per Laboratory Policies and Procedures.
• Participates in Quality Control, Quality Assurance, maintenance and safety programs.
• Maintains parts, reagents and supplies in assigned areas; may evaluate and write procedures for new methods.
• Participates in teaching, continuing education, supervisory and other organizational activities.
• Performs other related duties with minimum supervision.

Education

Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology or related laboratory science; or Associates Degree in Medical Laboratory Technician Plus 10 years of work experience required.

Registered Clinical Laboratory Science – CLS(MLS), MT(ASCP), CLS(NCA), MT(AMT) within six months of hire

Certification Maintenance Program every 3 years for new certifications (as of 2004 entrants)
