Job summary

South Texas Health System in McAllen, TX seeks a Medical Laboratory professional to receive and analyze specimens, report results promptly, and participate in QA/QC and safety programs. The role may involve teaching, process development, and supervisory activities with minimal supervision.

The position requires a relevant bachelor’s or associate degree, active CLS/MLS/MT certification within six months, and ongoing participation in a certification maintenance program.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology or related laboratory science, or an associate degree with 10 years' work experience.
• Must obtain CLS/MLS/MT certification within six months of hire.
• Techs certified as of 2004 must participate in Certification Maintenance every 3 years.
• Commitment to Compliance Program and Code of Conduct with required trainings.

Responsibilities

• Receive and analyze laboratory specimens and report results in a timely manner.
• Perform duties requiring technical and professional judgment.
• Participate in Quality Control, Quality Assurance, maintenance and safety programs.
• Maintain parts, reagents and supplies in assigned areas; may evaluate/write procedures for new methods.
• Participate in teaching, continuing education, supervisory and other organizational activities.
• Perform other related duties with minimum supervision.

Education

Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology or related laboratory science

Associates Degree in Medical Laboratory Technician Plus 10 years of work experience

Registered Clinical Laboratory Science - CLS/MLS/MT

Certification Maintenance Program participation every 3 years
