Description

Summary:
Performs a variety of patient testing in multiple laboratory disciplines and specialty laboratories, supporting clinical activities at UNCHCS.

Responsibilities:

1. Investigates problems with equipment, test results, specimens, and workflow.
2. May serve as a Lead Technologist or Program Manager in areas such as quality control, education, competency, equipment, safety, etc.
3. Monitors daily operation of laboratory sections or work areas.
4. Participates in teams or performs special projects/assignments.
5. Performs non-routine, complex test procedures including chemical, microscopic, and bacteriologic tests, and provides data on reactions observed.
6. Performs quality control and equipment maintenance in laboratories.
7. Reports results to healthcare providers and consults with them regarding test outcomes.
8. Reviews test results for accuracy and corrects errors promptly.
9. Trains new employees, teaches Clinical Laboratory Science students and Pathology residents, and serves as a technical resource.

Other Information

Education Requirements: Bachelor's of Science degree.

Licensure/Certification Requirements: MLS/MT (ASCP), MT (NCA), or MT (AMT) certification required.

Professional Experience Requirements: Minimum of two years of experience at the medical laboratory technologist, technician, cytotechnologist, or histotechnologist level.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Relevant skills and abilities as required for the role.
