Summary:

Performs a variety of patient testing in multiple laboratory disciplines and specialty laboratories, supporting clinical activities in the UNCHCS.

This position is scheduled Monday - Thursday, 9:00 pm - 7:30 am.

Responsibilities:

1. Investigates problems with equipment, test results, specimens, and workflow.
2. May serve as a Lead Technologist or Program Manager in areas such as quality control, education, competency, equipment, safety, etc.
3. Monitors daily operation of laboratory section or work area.
4. Participates in teams or performs special projects/assignments.
5. Performs non-routine, complex test procedures including chemical, microscopic, and bacteriologic tests. Observes tests and reactions, providing data.
6. Performs quality control and equipment maintenance.
7. Reports results to healthcare providers and consults regarding test results.
8. Reviews test results for accuracy and timely correction of errors.
9. Trains new employees and teaches Clinical Laboratory Science students and residents. Serves as a technical resource.

Other Information

Education Requirements: Bachelor's of Science degree.

Licensure/Certification Requirements: MLS/MT (ASCP), MT (NCA), or MT (AMT) certification.

Professional Experience Requirements: Two years of experience at the medical laboratory technologist, technician, cytotechnologist, or histotechnologist level.
