Summary:

Performs a variety of patient testing in multiple laboratory disciplines and specialty laboratories to support clinical activities in UNCHCS. The work schedule is Monday - Thursday, 9:00 pm - 7:30 am.

Responsibilities:

1. Investigates problems with equipment, test results, specimens, and workflow.
2. May serve as a Lead Technologist or Program Manager in areas such as quality control, education, competency, equipment, safety, etc.
3. Monitors daily operation of the laboratory section or work area.
4. Participates in teams or performs special projects/assignments.
5. Performs non-routine, complex test procedures including chemical, microscopic, and bacteriologic laboratory tests, observing tests and reactions, and providing data.
6. Performs quality control and equipment maintenance in laboratories.
7. Reports results to healthcare providers and consults with them regarding test results.
8. Reviews test results for accuracy and corrects errors promptly.
9. Trains new employees, teaches Clinical Laboratory Science students and Pathology residents, and serves as a technical resource.

Other Information

Education Requirements: Bachelor's of Science degree.

Licensure/Certification Requirements: MLS/MT (ASCP), MT (NCA), or MT (AMT) certification.

Professional Experience Requirements: Two years of experience at the medical laboratory technologist, technician, cytotechnologist, or histotechnologist level.
