Job Description - Medical Technologist I Hematology Oncology Full Time Days (2506001407)

Children’s Hospital of Michigan is an international leader in pediatric and adolescent medicine. Surgical services include general, thoracic, reconstructive, and cardiovascular. Advanced diagnostic imaging technology designed specifically for children includes Positron Emission Tomography (PET) and MRI. The hospital is a verified Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center and a dedicated pediatric burn center. Experts in pediatric critical care, rehabilitation, and neonatal and perinatal medicine provide care across Children’s Hospital of Michigan, Children’s Hospital of Michigan - Troy, and six ambulatory sites.

Summary Description

Under general supervision, performs quantitative and qualitative laboratory tests on patient specimens according to standard laboratory procedures. Analyzes test results, prepares samples, calculates findings, and maintains records. Prepares solutions, reagents, media, stains, and other materials for testing. Processes and tests various laboratory specimens, reviews and reports results, and performs maintenance and troubleshooting of laboratory equipment. Acts as a resource for other laboratory personnel.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree from an approved college or university, or graduation from an accredited school of medical technology, or equivalent such as military training as defined by 42 CFR 493.1489, or qualified at the Medical Technologist level by achieving a satisfactory grade on a HHS examination prior to 2/28/92 (42 CFR 493.1491). Meets criteria for High Complexity testing per CLIA regulations.
  • Prefer 6 months to 1 year of medical laboratory technologist or clinical laboratory scientist experience in an acute care facility.
  • Required: Registration or registry eligibility with an approved certifying agency (ASCP, NCA, AMT, or CSMLS within 12 months of hire). Non-US trained personnel must complete an equivalency evaluation within 30 days of hire. Licensure as required by state.

  • Manual dexterity and visual acuity to operate laboratory equipment.
