Job Description - Medical Technologist I Hematology Oncology Full Time Days (2506001406)

Children’s Hospital of Michigan is an international leader in pediatric and adolescent medicine. Our services include general, thoracic, reconstructive, and cardiovascular surgery. We utilize advanced imaging technology specifically designed for children, such as Positron Emission Tomography (PET) and MRI. The hospital is a verified Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center and a dedicated pediatric burn center. We provide expert pediatric critical care, rehabilitation, and neonatal and perinatal medicine at Children’s Hospital of Michigan, Children’s Hospital of Michigan - Troy, and six ambulatory sites.

Summary Description

Under general supervision, performs quantitative and qualitative laboratory tests on patient specimens according to standard laboratory formulas and procedures. Analyzes test results, prepares samples for testing, calculates findings, and maintains records. Prepares and validates solutions, reagents, media, stains, and other materials used in testing.

Processes and tests all types of laboratory specimens, reviews and reports lab results, performs operational duties, maintains and troubleshoots laboratory instrumentation and equipment, and acts as a resource to other laboratory personnel.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university and/or graduate of an accredited school of medical technology, or equivalent (such as military training as defined by 42 CFR 493.1489), or qualified at the Medical Technologist level by passing a satisfactory HHS examination prior to 2/28/92 (42 CFR 493.1491). Meets criteria for High Complexity testing as per CLIA regulations (42 CFR 493.1489 and 42 CFR 493.1491).
  • Prefer 6 months to 1 year of experience as a medical laboratory technologist or clinical laboratory scientist in an acute care setting.
  • Must be registered or eligible for registration with an approved certifying agency (ASCP, NCA, AMT, or CSMLS within 12 months of hire). Non-US trained personnel must complete an equivalency evaluation by ECE, NACES, or AICE within 30 days of hire. State licensure as required.
