Job summary

Mohawk Valley Health System in Utica, NY is seeking a dedicated Medical Technologist to join our Laboratory team. The role performs clinical testing across multiple areas, maintains QC, and supports patient care by delivering timely, accurate results.

Under the direction of the Laboratory Medical Director and Director of Laboratory Services, the MT will operate in 12-hour day shifts (Fri-Sun) and may provide supervision as needed. A bachelor's degree and NYS license are required.

• Bachelor’s degree in medical technology or related science with approved medical clinical training
• Minimum 1 year laboratory work experience (may be part of clinical training)
• New York State Clinical Laboratory Technologist license.

Responsibilities

• Obtain blood specimens by venipuncture or skin puncture.
• Perform clinical testing in two or more areas and ensure accuracy.
• Evaluate specimens for suitability and manage test QC.
• Report results accurately per laboratory protocols.
• Maintain documentation of QC, results and competency.
• Provide orientation or supervision as assigned and support lab operations.

Mohawk Valley Health System is looking for a dedicatedMedical Technologist to join our team!

• Shift: Days
• Schedule: 12-hour shifts, Friday–Sunday

Under the direction of the Laboratory Medical Director and Director of Laboratory Services. Performs clinical testing in at least two of the following areas: blood bank, microbiology, serology, chemistry, hematology, or urinalysis. Obtains and receives specimens, understands method principles, performs QC procedures, interprets results as to accuracy, acceptability and critical limits. Works independently, organizing work to meet established deadlines.

Core Job Responsibilities

• Obtains blood specimens by skin puncture or venipuncture using appropriate technique and maintaining the integrity of the specimen in relation to the test performed.
• Prepares samples for analysis and accurately and efficiently. Evaluates suitability of specimen for analysis: appropriately accepting or rejecting specimens according to laboratory policy.
• Evaluates laboratory results through correlation with common physiological conditions. Reports test results accurately and timely per laboratory protocols.
• Anticipates and recognizes errors, responding in an appropriate manner by reporting to supervisor or technologist in charge.
• Follows work instructions for critical values and delta checks.
• Conducts established quality control procedures on analytical tests, procedures, equipment, reagents, media, and products and maintains accurate documentation per department protocols.
• Reviews QC and patient data from previous day (documentation and problems referred to supervisor).
• Maintains competence needed for health care advancements, scientific research, technology, new equipment and/or new procedures.
• Completes educations and competency documentation before due date.
• Provides clinical orientation and supervision for new or less experience personnel as assigned and can function as acting supervisor as qualified and assigned.

Education/Experience Requirements

Required:

• Bachelor’s degree in medical technology or related science with approved medical clinical training
• Minimum 1 year experience laboratory work (may be part of clinical training program)

Licensure/Certification Requirements

Required:

• New York State Clinical Laboratory Technologist license.
