Job summary

UVM Health Network - Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital in Plattsburgh, NY seeks a Licensed Laboratory Technologist to assist the Laboratory Supervisor. You will perform clinical tests, assist with specimen collection and processing, and contribute to quality control and maintenance.

The role includes reporting and verifying results, and participating in training and in-service programs to maintain competency as procedures change.

Qualifications

• Licensed or eligible as Clinical Laboratory Technologist in NY.
• Must obtain full license within NYS guidelines.
• Bachelor's in Medical Technology with internship or related science with clinical experience.
• Degree/credits meeting NYSDOH requirements for a Technologist.
• ASCP, NCA or equivalent certification recommended.
• If trained via MLT program, may require supervision for initial 6 months.

Job description

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Assists the Laboratory Supervisor in achieving efficient Laboratory operation by performing clinical tests. Supports laboratory testing services by performing specimen collection and processing, quality control and maintenance functions, and results reporting and verification. Participates in training and in-service programs to maintain and upgrade competency at the level required by the Supervisor as procedures are changed or added.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION/SKILLS REQUIRED:

• Licensed or eligible (application pending with a limited license in effect) as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist in the State of New York.
• Employees with a limited license must obtain full license within New York State guidelines.
• Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology (hospital-based formal internship required) OR
• Bachelor's Degree in related science from an accredited college with subsequent relevant clinical laboratory experience for one year. Degree must include sufficient science and math credits to meet minimum NYSDOH requirements for a Technologist.
• ASCP, NCA or equivalent certification is highly recommended.
• Graduate of an accredited MLT Program, who also meets requirement #4 above, the last year of which includes clinical training and a clinical internship, constitutes 6 months of relevant experience. A person hired with these qualifications would be required to be under the supervision of anther MT or a supervisor for the first 6 months of employment.
