Summary

The Advanced Medical Support Assistant (AMSA/GS6) is responsible for initiating and performing a variety of clerical and administrative duties associated with patient care and treatment for the Radiology Service (Washington, DCVAMC).

Duties
  • Utilizes knowledge to enter, modify, and retrieve sensitive information/data into or from electronic medical records, scheduling systems, and reports.
  • Interprets and verifies provider orders following VHA National Radiology Program Office guidelines.
  • Works independently to schedule, cancel, and reschedule appointments, update demographics and insurance info, and monitor inpatient and outpatient appointments.
  • Performs daily administrative duties in Radiology, including appointment scheduling, verifying provider orders, and managing consultation requests.
  • Monitors and manages the Recall Reminder list, completes follow-up calls, and documents contacts in CPRS.
  • Handles sensitive information and reports, ensuring compliance with privacy laws and regulations.
  • Schedules exams, sends confirmation letters, and manages appointment reminders.
  • Initial contact with patients, verifying PHI, handling incoming calls, and routing them appropriately.
  • Reviews radiology requests, checks for urgency, and coordinates portable exams.
  • Verifies exam reasons and patient history, checks in patients, and maintains confidentiality.
  • Coordinates conferences and meetings as needed.

Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm, EST

Requirements
  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Selective Service Registration (for males born after 12/31/1959)
  • Proficiency in English
  • Background/security investigation

Qualifications

Basic Requirements: U.S. citizenship, six months of clerical/admin experience or one year of education above high school, or equivalent experience/education, no certification required.

Additional qualifications include experience with medical terminology, proficiency in English, and specific experience at the GS-5 level for the GS-6 position.

Education

Recognized U.S. educational institutions; foreign education requires equivalency verification.
