Base Pay Range

$55,959.00/yr - $71,744.00/yr

Position Summary

This part-time Medical Support Assistant (Advanced) position is located at VA Boston Medical Center, West Roxbury, MA. The role involves administrative support primarily focused on scheduling within the section, among other duties.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Support clinic profile management.
  2. Schedule patients into specialty clinics, including new and established patients.
  3. Collect and update insurance information from Veterans and family members.
  4. Prepare correspondence and memos as needed.
  5. Screen and receive phone calls courteously, providing requested information while maintaining privacy.
  6. Enter data accurately into VISTA and scan documents within 24 hours.
  7. Promote Veterans registration and use of MyHealtheVet.
  8. Follow procedures for Community Care referrals.
  9. Serve as the initial contact point for various units and clinics regarding appointments and referrals.
  10. Interact appropriately with patients considering their cognitive, emotional, and age-related needs.
Work Schedule

20 hours per week, 7:30 am - 4:00 pm, based on organizational needs.

  • Not authorized for telework or flexible schedules.
  • Not eligible for relocation or recruitment incentives.
  • This is a permanent position with benefits and is part of the excepted service.
Minimum Requirements
  • U.S. citizenship and proficiency in English.
  • High school diploma or equivalent, or relevant experience.
  • Must pass background/security checks and a pre-employment physical.
  • Participation in influenza vaccination program required.
Qualifications

Basic Requirements: U.S. citizenship, education or experience in administrative tasks, English proficiency, and other standard qualifications.

Grade Level GS-06: Requires one year of experience at the GS-05 level, demonstrating high-volume scheduling, customer service, and familiarity with clinic operations. Must demonstrate knowledge, skills, and abilities including collaboration, organization, communication, and technical healthcare knowledge.

Physical Requirements

Some physical exertion required, including standing, reaching, and lifting moderately heavy items. Work involves keyboarding and walking around the facility.
