Veterans Health Administration (VA) in the United States seeks an Advanced Medical Support Assistant (AMSA) to support scheduling, patient check-in/out, and insurance processes. The AMSA collaborates with care teams to ensure timely access to inpatient and outpatient services.
Primary duties include coordinating administrative tasks, processing RTC orders, generating recall reminders, and handling complex patient interactions with a focus on accuracy and customer service.

The Advanced Medical Support Assistant (AMSA) works collaboratively with other members of expanded health care teams that may include Community Care providers when access is limited in house, pharmacists, social workers, dieticians, behavioral health staff, etc.

Conducting special audits, studies, or surveys to development procedures. Ensure appointments is made from a provider's order. Coordinating administrative services for veterans, family members, caregivers, and general public, administrative and clinical staff to insure continuity of inpatient and outpatient care. Patient check-in process (in its entirety), including the printing of documentation needed for appointment.
Explaining the VHA mandate to collect insurance information to Veterans and their families. Collecting, scanning, and updating health insurance information to aid in the revenue collection process. Completing patient check-out process daily, including completion of Return to Clinic (RTC) orders, creation of recall reminders, consult follow-up, no-showing patient appointments according to local policy, and any other action required to complete appointment process.
Utilizing reports to assist in care delivery process. Resolving difficult problems and diffuses potential dissatisfaction with VA services. Responsible for VHIC Card process, BeneTravel requests assistance, understanding Heritage Medication Program, postage meters, UPS labels, and any other miscellaneous processes. Work Schedule: Full time; Work schedule will be determine upon selection.
Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of existing pay, higher or unique qualifications, or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade).
