Patient care is our top priority, and our medical secretaries are vital in providing quality, compassionate service. The role requires emotional intelligence and the ability to thrive in a busy environment. The medical secretary will work for specific doctors, answering calls and scheduling appointments, collaborating with physicians, nurses, medical assistants, and other staff.

Essential Functions
  1. Use phone systems to answer and direct calls promptly; maintain digital literacy essential for patient care.
  2. Register new patients and verify demographic and insurance info for returning patients.
  3. Verify insurance eligibility one day prior to scheduled appointments.
  4. Triages patient concerns and forwards them appropriately.
  5. Schedule, reschedule, and update patient appointments and clinic schedules.
  6. Maintain knowledge of LBJI department functions and communicate with other departments as needed.
  7. Complete clerical duties, including disability paperwork and attorney scheduling, within five business days.
  8. Manage referrals, including scheduling and completing necessary documentation.
  9. Document refill requests, concerns, voicemails, and communications in patient charts.
  10. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent

Physical Requirements

Prolonged sitting/standing, working beyond 8 hours, handling physical tasks including lifting up to 50 lbs., and visual acuity requirements. Accommodations available for disabilities.

Work Environment

Office setting with frequent contact with patients and staff. May involve stressful situations and interruptions.
