Job summary

Ventura Orthopedics and Sports Medicine is seeking a dedicated Medical Scribe to join our team in supporting electronic medical records and patient documentation. The role involves real-time transcription, chart preparation, and ensuring smooth physician workflow during clinic hours.

Ideal candidates have a HS diploma or GED with 12–18 months related experience, proficiency with MS Word/Outlook/Excel, and familiarity with EMR systems such as eClinicalWorks. Training will be provided as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required with 12–18 months related experience or training.
• Must be able to transcribe accurately in real time during patient visits.
• Experience with Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel; familiarity with EMR systems preferred.

Responsibilities

• Transcribe medical data quickly and accurately as patients are examined.
• Prepare electronic charts for new and established patients with relevant info.
• Maintain records with correct spelling, grammar and completeness.
• Keep physician workday moving efficiently during clinic hours.
• Be familiar with the EMR system used in the clinic.

Requirements

Overall responsibilityUnder the direction of the Physician, act as a Medical Scribe and provide electronic medical record support services.

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

• Transcribing medical data quickly and accurately while patients are being examined
• Preparing electronic charts of upcoming new and established patients by entering referring and other treating Doctors(s) contact information, and all medical information relevant to the office visit, including patient history, symptoms, and complaint.
• Maintain records using accurate spelling, correct grammar and completeness before they are sent to the Doctor for review and sign-off
• Responsible for keeping the physician workday moving efficiently in the office during clinic hours
• Familiar with most current electronic medical record system in the clinic
• Be available for training when required.

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and twelve to eighteen months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience

• Ability to take comprehensive notes as clinical appointments are conducted.

• Ability to use a computer using Microsoft Word, and Outlook & Excel Experience with eClinicalWorks a plus
• Ability to enter data into the electronic medical records system with speed and accuracy
• Ability to scan documents, and catalog patient records
• Ability to maintain a standard work schedule
• Ability to follow HIPAA guidelines
• Ability to have flexibility in work schedules and locations as needed
• Ability to complete electronic medical records in a timely manner
