Job summary

Northwest Eye Clinic is seeking a Medical Scribe to assist ophthalmology and optometry teams in documenting patient exams in EMR and ensuring billing documentation is submitted. Starting pay is $18.50-21.00/hour, with travel to all Northwest Eye locations including Golden Valley.

The role supports efficient patient flow, assists in patient education, medication dispensing, and chart review for ICD-10 accuracy. Based at Golden Valley with travel to Wayzata, Minnetonka, St.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • No previous experience required (entry level).
  • One year of direct patient care or scribe experience preferred.
  • Strong communication and professional demeanor essential.
  • Excellent typing skills and reliability expected.

Responsibilities

  • Document patient exam in EMR/EHR, including templates and orders.
  • Provide patient and family counseling/education as needed.
  • Dispense medication or sample products as directed.
  • Print/dispense glasses or contact lens prescriptions.
  • Review chart notes to ensure ICD-10 compliance and accuracy.
  • Obtain patient signatures on consent documents for procedures.
  • Prepare exam rooms and maintain cleanliness and supplies.
  • Attend trainings on MIPS, HIPAA, and privacy requirements.
  • Schedule return appointments and recalls in PM system.

Position Summary

The Medical Scribe assists the Doctor of Ophthalmology and/or Optometry in accurately documenting the patient exam in Electronic Medical Records (EMR) and ensuring billing documentation has been submitted. The Medical Scribe partners with other clinical staff to ensure an efficient patient flow and quality patient care. Starting pay is $18.50-21.00/hour.



Location and Schedule

This position is based at our Golden Valley location, however some travel is expected to all Northwest Eye Clinic locations (Wayzata, Minnetonka, St. Anthony, Maple Grove and Woodbury).



Essential Duties And Responsibilities


  • Document patient exam in EHR, scribing all elements of the patient exam including contact lens template, procedure orders, e-prescribing medications and scheduling the return to clinic.

  • Provide patient and family counseling/education as needed.

  • Dispense medication and/or over the counter product samples as directed.

  • Print and dispense glasses and/or contact lens prescriptions as directed.

  • Review all chart notes and correspondence daily to ensure accuracy and completeness. Ensure chart documentation meets ICD-10 requirements.

  • Obtain patient signature on consent documents for in lane procedures.

  • Set up exam rooms per provider preference, keep exam rooms stocked and clean between patients; cleaned at end of each workday; assist in maintaining public spaces for professional appearance.

  • Attend trainings and stay current on requirements for Merit Based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) measures, HIPAA compliance and Protected Health Information.

  • Schedule return appointments and/or enter recalls in Electronic Practice Management (EPM) as ordered by the provider, including referrals to outside providers

  • Other duties as assigned.



Qualifications


  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • No previous experience required.

  • Great experience for future medical students

  • One year experience within direct patient care or as a scribe in a medical setting preferred

  • Strong communication skills and high level of professionalism

  • Excellent typing skills

  • Reliable transportation
