The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs is seeking a Medical Records Technician (Coder) to classify medical data from patient health records. The ideal candidate will possess knowledge in medical terminology, anatomy, and coding, with relevant educational qualifications. This position is located in the Health Information Management (HIM) section at the Washington DC, Veterans Affairs Medical Center. The Medical Records Technician (MRT) (Coder) is skilled in classifying medical data from patient health records in hospital settings, physician offices, group practices, multi-specialty clinics, and specialty centers.

Certification: Candidates must have one of the following certifications through AHIMA or AAPC: Apprentice/Associate Level, Mastery Level, or Clinical Documentation Improvement Certification. Current VHA employees may qualify under the Grandfathering Provision.
Details for GS-4 through GS-8 levels, including experience, education, and KSAs, are provided. For instance, GS-5 candidates need a bachelor's degree with specific coursework and demonstrated knowledge, while GS-8 candidates must demonstrate advanced skills in outpatient and inpatient coding, including complex documentation and coding scenarios.

The full performance level is GS-8, with the actual grade range from GS-4 to GS-8.
