Job summary

St. David's Medical Center, part of the HCA Healthcare family, seeks a Medical Records Specialist to support the HIM Director in managing HPF/MPF workflows, scanning, indexing, and archival activities.

You will also assist with birth certificate processes and act as a primary contact when leaders are unavailable. Ideal candidates may have a high school diploma, hospital or medical office exposure, and relevant state certification programs for birth certificate processing.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Hospital or medical office experience preferred, but not required.
• Completing a certification program from the state(s) may be required for birth certificate processing, training and course fees will be provided.

Responsibilities

• Retrieves discharged medical records from various departments and reconciles them to ensure records are accounted for.
• Facilitates retrieval and printing of medical records from storage and archival/retention of documents.
• May assist with the physician suspension process by evaluating if a physician should be suspended and preparing notices.
• Prepares medical records and loose documents for scanning.
• Scans medical record documents.
• Indexes medical record documentation.
• Performs paper to PC validation to ensure all documents are scanned.
• Completes any required birth certificate processing certification programs.
• Interacts with parents to collect birth information and guide form completion.
• Works with parents to complete the Acknowledgment of Paternity form as needed.
• Reviews patient records and other resources to obtain birth information.
