Job summary

Grand Strand Medical Center, part of the HCA Healthcare family, is seeking a Medical Records Specialist to support the HIM workflow, manage HPF/MPF queues, and ensure accuracy in records processing. This role serves as a key liaison when the HIM Director or Coordinator is unavailable.

Responsibilities include retrieving and reconciling records, scanning and indexing documents, and assisting with birth certificate-related duties while maintaining compliance with state guidelines.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Hospital or medical office experience preferred.
• Certification program from the state may be required for birth certificate processing.

Responsibilities

• Retrieves discharged medical records from various departments and reconciles them to ensure records are accounted for.
• Scans medical record documents and prepares them for scanning into HPF/MPF systems.
• Assists with the birth certificate process and related documentation as needed.
• Acts as primary contact when the HIM Director or Coordinator is unavailable.
• Manages record retention and archival of documents and other materials.
