Job summary

On Call Counsel is seeking a Medical Record Specialist to support attorneys and nurse paralegals by ensuring timely and accurate acquisition of medical records and billing statements. You will communicate with healthcare providers and track requests throughout the process.

The role requires strong organization, attention to detail, and solid knowledge of HIPAA privacy rules. Prior experience with medical records in legal or healthcare settings is preferred.

Qualifications

• Experience requesting, reviewing, or managing medical records.
• Deep understanding of HIPAA regulations and patient confidentiality.

Responsibilities

• Record acquisition and tracking of medical records and billing statements from providers.
• Follow up via phone, fax, email, and mail to ensure timely receipt of documents.
• Quality control: review records for completeness, accuracy, and legibility.
• File management: upload and organize medical records in the firm’s case management software.
• Collaborate with case managers, attorneys, and nurse paralegals to identify missing records for case prep.
• Communicate with clients to verify provider information and obtain signed authorizations.
