Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; basic medical terminology required.
• 1–2 years RHIT/RHIA certification or equivalent experience.
• Prolonged walking, standing, sitting or bending; able to lift 25–50 lbs and reach high shelving with ladder.
• Typing speed of at least 40 WPM.
• Strong English grammar, spelling and formatting for written correspondence and reports.
• Ability to use standard office equipment and perform medical records maintenance tasks.
• Familiarity with Joint Commission standards for health records.

Responsibilities

• Review, complete and secure medical information request files.
• Process release of information requests in accordance with policy and directives.
• Maintain logs and file military forms documenting patient care in records.
• Locate and extract pertinent information from medical files and report findings to requestors.
• Advise patients and agencies on policies related to releasing medical information.
