Job summary

St. Anthony is seeking a part-time Medical Records Clerk (Release of Information) to support the HIM department in Carroll, IA. The role requires processing and releasing medical records, verifying authorizations, and maintaining EMR logs, with strict adherence to HIPAA and hospital policies.

Responsibilities include answering the main phone line, providing customer service, and handling confidential materials. This position may require occasional training and attendance at mandatory meetings.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• One year certificate from college or technical school; related experience preferred.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.

Responsibilities

• Answer main telephone line in the department.
• Provide excellent internal/external customer service via telephone, fax, or face-to-face contact to assist patients with their health care needs.
• Verify and process medical records for patient care, quality review and audits in a timely manner.
• Distribute and retrieve charts from doctor’s deficiency area.
• Handle confidential and time sensitive materials per guidelines and safety procedures.
• Coordinate release of medical records to insurance companies, lawyers, and state/federal agencies.
• Process subpoenas and court orders as directed.
• Verify authorizations per hospital policy and laws.
• Log requests in EMR with dates and requester details.
• Attend mandatory meetings and programs; participate in growth opportunities.

Education

High school diploma

One year certificate from college or technical school

Three to six months related experience and/or training preferred

Knowledge of medical terminology
