Job summary

Qualifications

• Knowledge of ICD-9-CM and CPT-4 coding principles and guidelines.
• Successful completion of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology coursework.
• Certification in health information management or coding preferred; credentialing within two years required.
• Strong accuracy and productivity standards for coding and abstracting.
• Ability to review records and resolve coding questions with physicians and staff.

Responsibilities

• Review, code, and analyze medical records to abstract data for the online system.
• Assign DRGs and APCs for inpatient and outpatient records per guidelines.
• Ensure accurate sequencing and coding per CMS/AHA/AHIMA guidelines.
• Abstract physician E/M and procedure codes; complete coding summaries.
• Maintain productivity standards and collaborate with Patient Accounts on discrepancies.
