Gilroy Healthcare Center in Gilroy, California seeks a Medical Records Assistant to help maintain patient records and health information systems in compliance with federal and state laws. You will perform clerical tasks, protect patient information, and support the Medical Records team.

The role requires a High School diploma or equivalent, basic office experience, strong communication, and familiarity with medical terminology.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum 6 months office experience or healthcare setting preferred.
• Knowledge of medical terminology helpful; experience with medical records preferred.
• Strong computer and typing skills are required.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Professional, calm and friendly demeanor in stressful situations.
• Knowledge of PCC (Point Click Care) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Handle clerical tasks: answering phones, filing, scheduling, and documentation.
• Assist Director of Medical Records/Administrator as needed.
• Retrieve, review, protect, and provide patient/resident records.
• Follow up on incomplete records and route corrections.
• Respond to requests for medical records accurately and timely.
• Assemble, collect and edit medical records as required.
• Maintain a record of information released from charts/records.
• Track and store active and inactive records per policy.
• Protect files per HIPAA standards.
• Assist in recording and reporting incidents/accidents.
