Job description

Job Title: Medical Receptionist/Customer Service

Location: Remote (South Carolina) United States

Job Type: Contract

Duration: 06+ Months with the possibility of extension

Pay Rate: $17.00/hour on W2

Training: 3 weeks, M-F 8:30 AM – 5:30 PM

Regular Schedule: M-F 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM

Position Summary: Under the supervision of an Operations Manager, the Patient Access Specialist provides advanced services to patients, providers, and caregivers for a manufacturer-sponsored program.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist patients, providers, and caregivers with:
  • Billing and coding support
  • Claims assistance, tracking, and submission
  • Prior authorization assistance and tracking
  • Coordination of benefits
  • Welcome calls
  • Advanced alternate coverage research
  • Appeals/Denials processing
  • Intake and reporting of adverse events as directed
  • Deliver exceptional customer service and escalate complaints as needed.
  • Serve as a regional expert on payer trends, reporting issues such as billing/claim denials and pricing errors.
  • Process necessary correspondence.
  • Coordinate with internal and external service providers to meet service level agreements (SLAs).
  • Work on moderately complex problems, exercising judgment within defined procedures.
  • Operate independently from a queue (phone or system) while adhering to standard operating procedures.
  • Perform additional related duties, such as benefit verifications and patient assistance program determinations.
Experience & Educational Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Preferred training in business administration, accounting, computer sciences, medical billing and coding, or customer service.
  • 4+ years of directly related experience required.
  • A two-year degree may substitute for 2 years of experience; a four-year degree may substitute for 4 years.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to build productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Advanced interpersonal, mathematical, and organizational skills.
  • Basic analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of accounting principles, pharmacy operations, and medical claims.
  • Familiarity with medical industry terminology and healthcare billing.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Word.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
  • Standard office environment (remote).
  • Sedentary work involving sitting, reaching, lifting, and typing.
  • Prolonged screen time (75% or more).
  • Ability to manage stressful situations as they arise.
