Job summary

Corpus Christi Medical Center is seeking a PRN Medical Laboratory Technician to perform procedures across major lab areas. Under supervision, you will collect and process specimens, run tests, and maintain QC and records.

Strong communication and teamwork are required as you report results to authorized sources. Qualifications include an Associate Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or CLIA-qualified MLT/CLT, or MLT/ASCP equivalent.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in a chemical, physical, biological, or medical laboratory technology from an accredited program.
• Or qualified under CLIA guidelines for MLT/CLT as an alternative path.
• MLT (ASCP) or equivalent credential is required or preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform laboratory procedures across major areas or in a focused area (blood banking, chemistry, hematology, immunology, microbiology).
• Under supervision, collect and process biological specimens for analysis according to protocol.
• Run analytical tests with limited independent judgment and monitor quality control.
• Operate instruments per training and document results and QC checks.
• Communicate test results and specimen needs to authorized sources; maintain accurate records.

Job Summary and Qualifications

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Medical Laboratory Technician may perform laboratory procedures across the major area of the laboratory, or concentrate activity in one area such as blood banking, chemistry, hematology, immunology, or microbiology. Under the direction of a qualified supervisor, a technician’s duties include the following: follows established procedures for collecting and processing biological specimens for analysis. Performs assigned analytical tests or procedures that require limited independent judgment. Recognizes factors that affect measurement and results and takes appropriate action according to predetermined protocols. Operates instruments within the cope of training, utilizing established protocols and quality control checks. Recognizes equipment malfunctions and notifies appropriate supervisory personnel. Communicates information such as test results, normal ranges and specimen requirements to authorized sources. Performs routine quality control and maintains accurate records. Demonstrates laboratory technical skills to new employees and students.

What qualifications you will need:

• Associate Degree in a Chemical, Physical, Biological, or Medical Laboratory Technology/Clinical Laboratory Technology (MLT/CLT) from an accredited institution.
• Or be qualified under CLIA guidelines for MLT/CLT.
• MLT (ASCP) or equivalent.
• Minimum 1 year of experience in a clinical laboratory preferred.
