Job summary

Corpus Christi Medical Center, part of HCA Healthcare, is seeking a Mental Health Technician PRN to join our patient-centered team in Corpus Christi, TX.

The MHT provides direct patient care to adolescent, adult mood disorder, and geriatric populations, supporting safe and therapeutic environments and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team. Eligible candidates will have BCLS and complete NVIC within 30 days of employment.

Qualifications

• BCLS certification required.
• NVIC training within 30 days of employment start date.

Responsibilities

• Provide care to patients promoting safety and a therapeutic environment.
• Assist patients with activities of daily living and aid in crisis intervention as needed.
• Lead milieu activities with a multidisciplinary team (events, meetings, groups, fitness, ADL, recreation).
• Chart patient observations, perform 15-minute rounds and 1:1 level of care.
• Contribute to development and implementation of patient treatment programs.
• Maintain confidentiality of patient records.
• Accompany patients to appointments, clinics, laboratories, and treatments as required.
• May perform initial patient evaluations, take vital signs, weights, and urine specimens.
• Attend in-service education and staff meetings.
• Follow institutional policies, safety, QA, and infection control standards.
• Engage in professional growth through education and training.
• Liaise with patients, families, and external facilities.
• Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Job Summary and Qualifications

The MHT provides direct patient care to adolescent, adult mood disorder, and Geriatric populations. The MHT provides patient supervision and assists in the maintenance of a safe, secure environment that enhances treatment effectiveness.

What you will do in this role:

• Provides care to patients in a manner that promotes safety, comfort, and the therapeutic environment.
• Assists patients with activities of daily living; attends to patient behavioral problems, and aids in crisis intervention as needed.
• Works with other members of a multi-disciplinary team in leading milieu activities such as current events groups, community meetings, goals groups, fitness groups, activities of daily living groups, and/or recreational activities, as appropriate to the specified patient population.
• Charts patient observations, performs 15-minute patient rounds and 1:1 level of care.
• Participates in the development and implementation of patient treatment programs.
• Maintains confidentiality of patient records.
• Accompany patients to and from appointments, clinics, laboratories, and/or treatments when required.
• May perform initial patient evaluations to determine treatment priorities; may take vital signs, weights, and urine specimens.
• Attends and participates all required in-service education and staff meetings.
• Maintains established institutional policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, and safety, environmental and infection control standards.
• Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in service meetings, and online assigned training.
• May provide liaison with patients, families of patients, or external facilities and agencies.
• Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned
