Penn State Health - St. Joseph Medical Center in Reading, PA is seeking a part-time Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) to perform complex tests on blood, body fluids, cells and tissues under supervision.

Responsibilities include microscopical, chemical, and bacteriological testing in accordance with CAP, FDA, OSHA, CLIA, and Joint Commission guidelines. Eligibility for ASCP/AMT certification is required; certified within 18 months of hire.

Summary Of Position

The medical laboratory scientist, under minimal supervision, is responsible for independently performing complex laboratory tests on blood, body fluids, cells, and tissues that includes standardized microscopic, chemical, and/or bacteriological testing. All testing is performed in accordance with laboratory policies and procedures, FDA, CAP, OSHA, CLIA, and Joint Commission regulations and guidelines. Test results are used in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease.

Minimum Qualification(s)

• Associates degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Laboratory Technology from an accredited institution OR be a high school graduate or equivalent and have successfully completed an official military medical laboratory procedures course of at least a duration of 50 weeks and have held the military enlisted occupational specialty of Medical Laboratory Specialist (Laboratory Technician).
• Must be eligible for ASCP, AMT or equivalent board certification exam and must be Medical Laboratory Technician certified within 18 months of hire.
