Job Overview

Fairview is looking for a Medical Laboratory Technician at M Health Fairview Southdale Hospital, located in Edina, MN. This is a part-time (benefit eligible) position, 48 hours/2 week pay period, evening shifts from 3pm-11:30pm, and every other weekend. This position is retention benefit eligible.

M Health Fairview Southdale Acute Care Laboratory is fast-paced and staffed 24/7. Our laboratory provides testing in clinical hematology, chemistry, blood gas, coagulation, urinalysis, transfusion medicine, and blood collection and processing.

The MLT performs waived, moderate, or high complexity testing, correlates data, and performs quality control within established parameters. Responsibilities include specimen collection, handling, test scheduling, and result reporting. The MLT works independently under general supervision.

Responsibilities

1. Collect and process biological specimens following SOPs.
2. Perform testing in areas such as Hematology, Coagulation, Microbiology, Serology, Immunology, Chemistry, Urinalysis, Phlebotomy, EKG.
3. Document and communicate test results accurately.
4. Perform maintenance and manage supplies.
5. Seek assistance for unusual situations.
6. Maintain confidentiality, promote teamwork, effective communication, and conflict resolution.
7. Schedule tests, verify patient info, explain procedures to patients.
8. Support quality assurance and compliance programs.
9. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in a lab science or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution.
• Qualified to work in a highly complex lab as per CLIA.
• HHS-approved lab certification (ASCP, AMT, or AAB); must obtain within 12 months if not certified at hire.

Preferred Qualifications

• One year of experience as an MLT in an integrated healthcare environment.
• Certified MLT.

Other Skills

• Good phlebotomy skills.
