Job summary

Virginia Mason Franciscan Health is seeking a Medical Lab Scientist to perform complex laboratory tests across hematology, chemistry, microbiology, and other disciplines to ensure accurate, timely results for patient diagnosis and treatment.

You will operate and maintain instruments, perform quality control, analyze specimens, and report results while upholding strict regulatory standards and patient safety.

Qualifications

• Required: Bachelors Of Science in a biological or chemical science as defined by CLIA., upon hire
• Preferred: multiple MLS certifications including IM Laboratory Scientist, Blood Banking, Chemistry - ASCP, Microbiology, Hematology, Histotechnologist

Responsibilities

• Performs and reports waived, moderately complex, and highly complex test procedures on patient specimens adhering to SOPs to ensure accurate and timely reporting
• Provides excellent patient care through clinical correlation of results, rapid notification of critical values, and testing within turn-around times
• Maintains automated equipment by performing maintenance, calibration and troubleshooting; contacts vendors for repairs as needed
• Performs calibration and quality control procedures and maintains records of testing parameters
• Participates in proficiency testing and reviews results with laboratory leaders
• Assists in evaluating and validating new procedures and equipment for up-to-date lab technology
