Job summary

Virginia Mason Franciscan Health is seeking a Medical Lab Scientist to perform complex laboratory tests across hematology, chemistry, microbiology, and more. You will operate, maintain, and calibrate instruments, interpret results, and ensure timely reporting to support patient diagnosis and treatment.

The role requires a BS in a biological or chemical science per CLIA, strong technical proficiency, and meticulous attention to regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in biological or chemical science as defined by CLIA.

Responsibilities

Performs and reports waived, moderately complex, and highly complex test procedures on patient specimens to ensure accurate, timely reporting.
Provides clinical correlation of results and rapid notification of caregivers of critical values.
Maintains and calibrates major automated equipment; contacts vendors for assistance or repairs when needed.
Performs calibration and quality control procedures and maintains records to ensure tests are within parameters.
Performs proficiency testing and reviews results with laboratory leaders.
Assists in evaluating and documenting new procedures and equipment to provide current laboratory technology.
