Job summary

BSA Hospital in Amarillo, TX is seeking a flexible, PRN Laboratory Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) or Technician (MLT) to join our team on a variable shift. This role supports patient care through accurate laboratory testing and timely result delivery.

Responsibilities include performing routine and special laboratory procedures, quality control, equipment maintenance, specimen handling, and adherence to regulatory standards.

Qualifications

• Baccalaureate or associate degree in medical technology or related science.
• ASCP or equivalent certification preferred (M(ASCP), H(ASCP), C(ASCP)).
• Clinical laboratory experience in a hospital setting preferred.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to prioritize workloads.
• Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.

Responsibilities

• Functions as a professional who assumes responsibility and accountability for the performance of clinical laboratory testing that pertains to patient care and diagnosis.
• Performs routine and special laboratory procedures, quality control, preventative maintenance, minor equipment repairs, inventory control, and statistical compilation.
• Participates in quality assurance, performance improvement, laboratory education, new employee training and proficiency testing when assigned.
• Displays technical expertise necessary to ensure timely and accurate results of laboratory procedures.
• Ensure specimens are obtained and processed in accordance with laboratory guidelines.
• Demonstrate proper communication skills to relate pertinent data or information about the patient or laboratory sample to appropriate care provider.
• Supports organizational priorities to maintain compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards.
• Exhibits problem-solving skills to troubleshoot and evaluate critical laboratory results.
• Participates in the training/mentoring of new employees, students or interns including lectures and bench techniques.
• Able to prioritize and organize workload and assist other coworkers to maintain productivity.
• Demonstrates proper infection control practices, proper patient identification, performs proper prompt specimen transport.

Job Requirements:

• Baccalaureate Degree or Associates Degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Laboratory Technician, or a chemical, physical, or biological science degree.

Preferred Job Requirements:

• ASCP or equivalent. Certification within a specific area, i.e., M(ASCP), H(ASCP), C(ASCP) qualifies.


• Previous clinical laboratory experience as a Medical Laboratory Technician, Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Scientist, or Medical Laboratory Scientist within a clinical laboratory.
