Job summary

Henry Ford Health in Detroit is seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist to join a dynamic laboratory team. Under general supervision, you will perform essential lab testing, troubleshoot issues, and ensure accurate results across a range of specimens.

You will triage and resolve problems, manage orders and communications, track shipments, and collaborate with pathologists, sales teams, and outreach partners to expand capabilities while maintaining high quality and patient safety.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science or related field is required.
• Certification by a nationally recognized agency (ASCP, AMT, ASM, AAB, AABB, ACS, or HEW) is preferred.
• Six months of experience in a medical laboratory setting.
• Demonstrated technical proficiency and theoretical knowledge to perform laboratory functions.

Responsibilities

• Triaging and troubleshooting: field calls, diagnose issues, and coordinate cross‑departmental solutions.
• Order and communication management: process orders with precision and keep clients informed.
• Shipment tracking and critical value handling: monitor shipments and manage high‑priority results.
• Cross-functional collaboration: work with sales teams, pathologists, and outreach partners to enable testing approvals.
• Multi-system mastery: gain hands-on experience with Sunquest, Copath, CRM, ATLAS.
• Customer-centric problem solving: serve as a bridge between customers and the laboratory to add value.

Education

Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science or related field

Qualifications

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

• Minimum of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university required. Coursework must align with duties of the specific section Medical Laboratory discipline position and meet the education Eligibility Routes for Medical Laboratory Scientist listed on the ASCP website at (ascp.org)
  • OR possesses a categorical scientist level certification as a BB, C, CG, CT, M, MB
  • OR has met the requirements for AAB and/or AMT certifications.
• Requires six months of experience in a medical laboratory setting.
• Demonstrated technical proficiency and theoretical knowledge sufficient to perform laboratory functions are required.
• Certification at the technologist, or medical/clinical lab scientist level from a nationally recognized agency, such as ASCP, AMT, ASM, AAB, AABB, ACS, or HEW is preferred.
