Job summary

Henry Ford Health in Detroit, MI is seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist to join a dynamic lab team. Under supervision you will tackle a fast-paced role with opportunities to learn and grow while supporting high-quality patient care.

You will triage issues, manage orders and communications, track shipments, collaborate across departments, and gain hands-on experience with Sunquest, Copath, CRM and ATLAS in a customer-focused lab environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university; meet ASCP education eligibility routes for Medical Laboratory Scientist.
• Six months of experience in a medical laboratory setting.
• Certification at technologist level or medical/clinical lab scientist level preferred (ASCP/AMT/AAB/etc).

Responsibilities

• Triaging & Troubleshooting: field calls, diagnose issues, and work cross-departmentally to solve problems.
• Order & Communication Management: process orders and maintain client communication.
• Shipment Tracking & Critical Value Handling: monitor shipments and manage critical lab values.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: partner with sales, pathologists, and outreach to facilitate testing approvals.
• Multi-System Mastery: gain experience with Sunquest, Copath, CRM, and ATLAS.
• Customer-Centric Problem Solving: act as the bridge between customers and the lab.

Qualifications

• Minimum of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university required. Coursework must align with duties of the specific section Medical Laboratory discipline position and meet the education Eligibility Routes for Medical Laboratory Scientist listed on the ASCP website at (ascp.org)
  • OR possesses a categorical scientist level certification as a BB, C, CG, CT, M, MB
  • OR has met the requirements for AAB and/or AMT certifications.
• Requires six months of experience in a medical laboratory setting.
• Demonstrated technical proficiency and theoretical knowledge sufficient to perform laboratory functions are required.
• Certification at the technologist, or medical/clinical lab scientist level from a nationally recognized agency, such as ASCP, AMT, ASM, AAB, AABB, ACS, or HEW is preferred.
