Job summary

The US Oncology Network is seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist to support our Eugene/Springfield sites. You will participate in specimen analysis, testing, and quality assurance tasks as part of our lab team, with at least one year of experience preferred.

The role includes some support for the Springfield location as needed. Qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology or equivalent, AMT/ASCP certification preferred, and an entry-level position with potential for growth.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or related health care field OR Baccalaureate degree with biology/chemistry major and sufficient biology/chemistry coursework.
  • AMT, ASCP or equivalent certification preferred.
  • Position is entry level and may require some lab experience.
  • 4-year degree candidates must take Hematology and/or Chemistry exam after 1 year of training.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with special procedures as needed (e.g., bone marrows).
  • Follows procedures for specimen handling, test analyses, reporting, and records of patient results.
  • Performs specimen analysis of Chemistry, Hematology, and Immunology specimens.
  • Maintains and operates laboratory equipment; conducts instrument maintenance.
  • Adheres to QC policies and documents calibrations and maintenance.
  • Participates in proficiency testing and reports results annually.
  • Prepares peripheral blood smear and performs WBC differential on smears.
  • Records results and processes specimens for send-out testing.
  • Identifies problems affecting test performance and notifies supervisor.
