The US Oncology Network is seeking a laboratory professional to perform moderate to high complexity tests, perform specimen analysis, and maintain instruments in Blacksburg. The role includes phlebotomy, specimen handling, and adherence to safety and quality policies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in medical technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or related health care field, or equivalent with biology/chemistry coursework.
  • Current state license if required; AMT/ASCP or equivalent certification preferred.
  • Entry level position; lab experience preferred; Hematology and/or Chemistry exams may be required after training.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with phlebotomy and specimen collection as ordered; obtain consent forms (ABN) prior to limited tests.
  • Assist with special procedures as needed (e.g., bone marrows).
  • Follow procedures for specimen handling, testing, reporting and records management.
  • Perform specimen analysis of Chemistry, Hematology and Immunology; operate and maintain instruments.
  • Adhere to quality control policies; document calibrations, maintenance, and lot numbers.
  • Participate in proficiency testing and ensure proper results reporting and charting.
  • Prepare reagents and restock supplies; send out tests to reference laboratories as needed.
  • Process orders and incoming results; ensure timely charting of patient results.
  • Identify and communicate test system discrepancies and take corrective actions.
  • Maintain documentation, inventory and a clean work environment.
