Job summary

Yale NewHaven Health is seeking a laboratory support professional to receive, accession, and process specimens and assist with general lab supply management. Responsibilities include handling telephone inquiries, data entry in HIS, and ensuring accurate patient identification throughout testing processes.

The role involves collaboration with Medical Laboratory Scientists and may include blood bank, microbiology, or pathology support tasks as needed to maintain timely reporting of results.

Qualifications

• HS Diploma or equivalency exam.

Responsibilities

• Understands and adheres to Performance Standards, Policies and Behaviors.
• Demonstrate knowledge of department and hospital policies and procedures and their execution.
• Handle telephone inquiries, transfer as needed.
• Receive, accession and process specimens in order to ensure timely reporting of results. Ensures positive patient identification.
• Perform registration in HIS as needed.
• Process reference lab testing as needed.
• Perform testing as needed.
• Independently troubleshoot specimen-related problems.
• Assist in training new employees.
• Maintain hardware and equipment as needed.
• Uses computer programs in laboratory and hospital based systems to ensure accurate data entry and retrieval.
• Perform other duties as needed.
• Blood bank related duties including preparing blood products and compatibility checks.
• Microbiology related duties including prep and handling of specimens.
• Pathology related duties including preparation and handling of slides.
