GENERAL OVERVIEW

Performs various technical and support laboratory duties under the supervision of a Medical Technologist.

Responsibilities

• Uses predetermined criteria for quality control and ensures the technologist in charge is aware of out-of-control quality results. (5%)
• Prepares and processes specimens according to department procedures and protocols; has limited capacity to result testing. (45%)
• Performs test order entry accurately to ensure proper testing and billing. (30%)
• Provides support such as answering phones, faxing reports, and reporting stat and critical results. (10%)
• Maintains cleanliness and supplies for efficient lab operations. (5%)
• May mentor MLA students in specimen processing per WPAHS policies. (5%)
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum

• Associates or BA degree in a clinical science, or current enrollment in a Med Tech program.
• Ability to work independently, in a fast-paced, high-volume environment, with decisive judgment.

Preferred

• Certificate from an accredited MLA program preferred. Experience in a clinical lab is a plus.
