Job Summary

Performs, interprets, and correlates clinical laboratory tests by following departmental protocols to assist in physician diagnosis and treatment. Prepares specimens for testing, screens patient specimens, and analyzes patient specimens for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. Performs quality control procedures and assists in maintaining an efficient laboratory operation. May serve as a generalist or as a limited specialist.

Essential Functions

• Operates laboratory equipment, including calibration, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, validation studies, quality control, proficiency testing, and documentation.
• Reads, interprets, and correlates clinical test results with patient history, diagnosis, and clinical condition. Communicates significant findings to clinicians.
• Checks supplies and reagents regularly to ensure adequate levels, proper labeling, and dating.
• Directs work of laboratory assistants or other personnel as appropriate.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in a related field.
• 1 year of relevant experience preferred.
• Certification requirements vary: CRT-Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (ASCP), CRT-AMT (American Medical Technologists), or CRT-Clinical Toxicology (AACC), as specified.
