Job summary

Morton General Hospital is hiring a Medical Lab Technician/Technologist to perform chemical, microscopic, serologic, hematologic, and related lab tests. You will maintain QC records, ensure data accuracy, and report critical results to physicians. Requires AS/BS degrees and applicable certifications, plus BLS and state license where applicable.

Two years of hospital lab experience preferred; position is full-time, with union wage scale and step-based pay. Travel and overtime may occur as needed.

Qualifications

  • Associate of Science degree required for MLT.
  • Bachelor of Science degree required for MT.
  • Certification by ASCP or AMT, or state/federal license.
  • Current BLS certification or obtained within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Receives and collects specimens for analysis.
  • Performs tests across hematology, chemistry, blood banking, coagulation.
  • Maintains QC procedures and records.
  • Reports critical values to physician promptly.
  • Ensures data completeness and accuracy on forms.
  • Calibrates and/or standardizes instruments.
  • Prioritizes workload and maintains supplies.

## Medical Lab Technician/Technologist (Full Time)### Category:Laboratory### Description:According to established policies and procedures, performs chemical, microscopic, serologic, hematologic, immunohematologic, parasitic, and bacteriologic tests to provide data for use in treatment and diagnosis of disease.### Minimum qualifications:* Associate of Science degree required for Medical Lab Technician.* Bachelor of Science degree required for Medical Technologist.* Medical Technician/Technologist certification by nationally recognized medical technology certification organization or licensed by state or federal government (ASCP or AMT).* Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification or must be obtained within 30 days of hire through American Heart Association (AHA) or equivalent organization.* Current license to practice as a medical assistant-phlebotomist in the state of Washington (may be waived at manager's discretion for temporary staff).* A minimum of two years hospital laboratory experience is preferred.### Primary Responsibilities:* Receives and/or collects specimens for laboratory analysis.* Performs tests in all laboratory disciplines: Hematology, blood banking, chemistry, coagulation, clinical microscopy, immunology.* Maintains proficiency with laboratory procedures and protocols.* Performs quality control procedures and maintains quality control records.* Ensures all patient data complete and correct.* Ensures all laboratory forms are complete and stamped if abnormal, highlighting any abnormal parameters.* Report any critical values directly to the responsible physician as soon as possible.* Assesses and adjusts procedure to be compatible with the growth and development of the patient.* Assesses patient’s level of understanding and adjusts procedures accordingly.* Obtains supplies, equipment and instruments in relation to the size of the patient.* Prioritizes workload to assure completion of assignment.* Asks appropriate clarifying questions relative to scope of assignment.* Provides status report to supervisor on assignments.* Maintains adequate supplies in work area.* Conducts oneself professionally at all times.* Utilizes professional standards of judgment for maximum patient welfare.* Calibrates and/or standardizes machines.* Draws blood from patients or donors in hospital or similar facility for analysis or other medical purpose.* Assumes responsibility for the laboratory when chief medical technologist is absent.* Shares after-hour call as scheduled.* Other duties as assigned.### Standard for portrayal of mission and values:* Employee demonstrates and fosters the Lewis County Hospital District No. 1 core values of - One team, on Mission.
