Job Summary

Under the general supervision of the Microbiology Supervisor and the technical guidance of a Medical Technologist, performs a variety of routine and specialized diagnostic laboratory tests on environmental, blood, and body fluid specimens as prescribed by physicians or healthcare providers in the technical area of Microbiology/Serology. Processes and analyzes all specimens submitted for clinical analysis by performing required tests, reporting results to appropriate personnel, and maintaining instrumentation utilized.

Minimum Qualifications

• Education: Associate degree in Microbiology, Biology, Basic Sciences, or Medical Laboratory Science required; OR Graduate of an approved program in Medical Laboratory Science.
• Experience: Minimum one year of experience in all areas of the Laboratory or Microbiology Department required. New graduates from an accredited school of Medical Laboratory Technology are considered to have one year of Laboratory experience in all areas of the Laboratory.
• Licensure and/or Certification: ASCP or NCA certification preferred. Eligible candidates will be accepted and expected to sit and pass certification exam within 6 months of employment.
• Skills: Ability to review policies, protocols, procedures, and methodologies; knowledge of basic laboratory methods and principles of Microbiology; working knowledge of automated and manual laboratory equipment; manual dexterity for venipuncture and handling specimens; problem-solving skills; knowledge of quality control principles; ability to interpret instructions; good communication skills; computer proficiency; ability to maintain confidentiality.
