Job summary

Medical University of South Carolina is seeking a Laboratory Professional in Charleston to perform clinical testing across the department, troubleshoot instruments, and ensure SOP compliance. This PRN, 40-hour-per-week position requires strong attention to accuracy and effective communication with the Laboratory Services team.

Education: BS in Medical Technology or related field plus 3 years of clinical experience and ASCP BOC MT certification or equivalent.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology or related field required.
• At least three years of clinical laboratory experience required.
• ASCP BOC MT certification or equivalent required.
• External candidates must meet Path and Lab ICCE Career Ladder requirements within 90 days.

Job Description Summary

Responsible for performing laboratory testing assigned to the department. Recognize unusual test results and resolve discrepancies. Ability to establish work priorities and handle several procedures simultaneously including troubleshooting instruments and other problems/issues. Maintain knowledge of all current Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) required to work effectively. Develop, draft, revise SOPs, training documents, validation/verification plans, test cases, and validation/verification summaries. Maintain excellent communication with the Department and other Laboratory Services personnel.

Certification: Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician by ASCP Board of Certification (BOC) or equivalent. NOTE: This is a Career Ladder Position. Internal candidates are required to submit and meet Path and Lab ICCE Career Ladder requirements. External candidates are required to complete Path and Lab ICCE Career Ladder requirements within 6 months in position.
